Fuel Switching Project in the Brazilian Cerrado biome, São Paulo state (Luara Ceramic)

Description: Luara ceramic is a small enterprise that produces red ceramic products such as tiles, bricks and structural blocks. Luara ceramic was one of the first in the industry to eliminate the use of wood from old growth forests in the region and have switched to more sustainable forms of energy such as renewable biomass from reforested, eco-friendly wood, such as algaoba wood, grown from sustainable management areas, and residues from cashew trees, bamboo husks, rice husks and others. Furthermore, the switch to biomass fuels contributed to the reduction of the impact of deforestation in the Cerrado (i.e., savanna) biome.
